Wisteria 'Violacea Plena'

The only double variety with long flower clusters (up to approx. 40 cm). The darkest blue rain next to "Royal Purple"! Often flowers only moderately profusely and at the same time as the foliage buds, which means that green colours are also visible during the main flowering period. The post-flowering in summer is very weak, but in autumn the variety is said to show the most beautiful colouring of all Wisterias: A warm golden yellow. "Violacea Plena" is suitable for facades and pergolas if there is enough space for the somewhat longer flower clusters. The variety originated in Japan and was introduced to England around 1870. It twines round to the left ("clockwise"). The fragrance can be faint to strong. Seeds are poisonous.

For location, pruning, training, climbing aids, structural damage, etc., see "Asian" wisteria.
