A particularly valuable variety for façades! Reaches a height of 1.5 – 2 metres, and is particularly well suited for potting. Very long flowering period from June to September (October).
Lat: Clematis integrifolia 'Arabella', introduced in 1990 by Barry Fretwell / Great Britain.
Shrub clematis is not particular about location, but they do love sunny spots - unlike many other clematis. Suitable for potting. Keep the planting zone clear and protect from snails in spring. When the plant reaches 30 cm in height (ideally before), provide shade at the base of the plant. Distance between plants: 0.3 - 0.8 metres.
This rambler has no tendrils. 'Arabella' is very robust and disease resistant; its flowers are abundant. This shrubby clematis is also very useful as a groundcover and for providing cut flowers. As with all bush-like flowers, the shrub clematis is cut down right above the ground each year; new shoots will grow from the rootstock, and every year the plant gets larger and bushier.
Shrub clematis can also be grown directly on facades with a climbing aid. However, they won't climb and twine the cables like other clematis would, and need to be trained on to the support by hand, woven in with other climbing plants or attached with binding material. If the shrub clematis is all you are training on the wall, install the rire rope trellises low.
