Showcase project for "Wooden trellis"

The wooden trellis before 1925. Money was tight back then too, which is why the house, built in 1882, was still unplastered after 40 years and looked dark; the trellis was therefore mounted on the unplastered masonry.

The farm with its vine-covered trellises in a view dating from around 1930. At last, the farmhouse has been plastered and looks bright!

Around 1930: If left unpruned in summer, the foliage on a vine trellis can become very lush!

Summer 2014: After 40 years of socialist state control and a further 25 years of standing empty, there is no trace left of the espaliers and vines.

2020: Construction work is underway inside, and vines have already been planted on the outside façade for a future trellis that is yet to be built

Early 2023: The young vines before winter pruning; the gaps in the brickwork are visible, particularly at the base

One old and one new AS 03020 trellis hook, and one LA 09015 bracket connect two horizontal robinia wood rails

A few of the trellis hooks from earlier times that were still in place were painted anthracite and reused

The wooden trellis was completed in the presence of several members of staff from FassadenGrün

May 2023: The vines are sprouting and turning green

Late August 2023: The 'Muskat bleu' (blue) and 'Birstaler Muskat' grape varieties are growing side by side; the harvest begins.

Spring 2025: After pruning and tying up the 'fruit wood', with additional horizontal stakes in the area of the window lintels

Special features

This trellis was rebuilt based on historical designs and is located at the FassadenGrün depot, where it can be viewed at any time. Some of the old trellis hooks, dating from around 1880, have been reused. A detailed description of this project, along with further photos, can be found on the blog.
