Fruits of the Wall Garden

Facade greening brings rewards... that is, a harvest! This was the inspiration of our ancestors who trellised trees against walls in a remarkably effective way (read more in our Middle Ages section about the history of grapevines and espalier fruits.

The supreme discipline of façade greening...

You only have a small property, yet you still want to grow some fruit? Or are you eager to grow that special variety that you've only found in your grandfather's garden and never in the market? In both cases, espalier fruit are a solution. Either for your house or backyard wall, here is a little orientation...

Cultivating wall fruit of any type is the ultimate skill within facade greening! It is something of an art and requires a good dose of passion and attention (lots of pruning!)-- and also a willingness to learn from mistakes. An espalier garden is a commitment, but when brought to fruition, a true delight!
