Green Leipzig – Southern Suburbs

This page focuses on the southern suburbs of the medieval city of Leipzig. These were a number of villages that gradually became more urbanised and were incorporated into the city as early as 1900.

The southern suburbs of Leipzig

There used to be many vine trellises here, though most of them disappeared as the area became urbanised. The fact that there are particularly many examples from ‘Connewitz’ is probably due to the abundance of photographic material available. However, there were likely just as many trellises in the other, lesser-known villages. Please note the source references provided beneath many of the images.
