Green walls in Saxony

Saxony had a great many vine trellises. It would be somewhat bold to claim that almost every house in the villages had its own trellis, but in climatically favourable areas such as the Leipzig lowlands and the Elbe valley, this was probably the case around 1850. However, as soon as one's gaze wanders to the higher regions, there is hardly any greenery to be found. Large wall fruit trees, as are common in Upper Bavaria, would have been suitable for this purpose, but were not so widespread in Saxony. Approximately 1,500 units have been published here so far, of which about 500 are from our own holdings (Taraba family collection). These pages are still under construction.
