Green facades in Germany

From the Middle Ages onwards, green facades were viewed in Germany from a practical perspective – it was all about yield. Grapevines dominated, later followed by espalier fruit trees. Roses were also common, and in the north there were ‘ivy houses’. We intend to show examples from each German federal state here in future, starting with Saxony, as this is where our collection is most extensive.
