Green facades in Denmark

In Denmark, green facades played an important role even 100 years ago and more, as the examples show.

There were grape trellises, but also espalier fruit trees and many other climbing plants such as wisteria. Ivy is very common, as in neighbouring Schleswig-Holstein in Germany. It is noteworthy that virtually all forms of wooden trellises were represented, including the diamond shapes more commonly seen in France. A wide variety of forms were gathered here in a relatively small space. Wire trellises, on the other hand, did not play a role; not a single example can be found. Monasteries, manor houses and farms were covered in greenery, as were holiday homes, schools, etc.
