Sunny to semi-shady locations. A slightly loamy soil is favourable. It should be watered during hot periods. If possible, do not plant other plants in the immediate vicinity, as the genus ‘Ampelopsis’ does not tolerate root pressure well. Planting distance: 1 - 2 m.
Compatible with all types of rods, trellises, and cables, especially also for nets. For compatible wire rope systems, see the chart below. Easy basic wire rope systems are good; medium systems are optimal.
Ampelopsis “Sibirica” is a climber with tendrils, medium strong growth up to 5 (8) m, yearly growth up to 1 - 1,5 metres; it may also cascade like a bridal train. Shoots and undersides of leaves heavily hairy. Very healthy leaves, foliage from May to October. Inconspicuous flowers in late summer, then inedible, colourful, spherical fruits, which are interesting as bird food (‘porcelain berries’). It is recommended to prune vigorously every year during the leafless period. If you want to do it particularly well, we recommend training it like a real grapevine!
